ForeRunning

Been using my new Forerunner 305 this morning.

Here's the recorded track from home to work along the motorway.

Its accuracy is remarkable... It even gets the lane right, most of the time, an operation that seems to be beyond of the abilities of my GPS navigator, which uses its maps to lock my position on the road.

The forerunner can get a precise lock just by staying in the passenger's seat... Great!!!

I wish I could upload the kml file so that you can have a look at my wanderings on google Earth... Well, may be not my way home, but it would be nice to fly over my next Rwanda trip by using Google Earth in 3D mode...

Well, at least is a nice method for monitoring undisciplined (italian ;)): car drivers about speed limits :) Given the sampling time and map's scale, is simple to compute your average speed between 2 marks on the maps :D.
It could also be a nice idea suggesting to companis/governments to put a "black box" (like the one in aircrafts) in any new car... I allready can see: "new state incentives for scapping(rottamare ?) your old car!".
The first small step towards traffic platoonization (the only way in wich i can translate "plotonizzazione del traffico", sorry), a project aimed to controll the increasing number of cars on the american highways by mean of an automatic pilot, mentioned some time ago by one of my teachers...

My dear, you're late...

already english insurance companies proposed discounts if you agreed to have a gps-tracking device in your car, to monitor speed limits and usage.

by the way, I think GPS gives you automatic speed read-out, whether by averaging between current and past position or by means of doppler effect I don't know.

So, if you click on any single marker, you'll get the speed too.

nice feature.... the speed monitoring i mean, abd the saves of money with the insurances. But i was thinking to an "external" monitoring, or better a real time monitoring, such as a speed limiter bounded to the actual position (i.e 50 km/h into urban sites and so on)... or transmitting your ID to the local adminstrations whenever you enter in a TLZ without regular permissions...

it infringes your privacy rights, you know?

Although London's congestion charges work exactly that way, with automatic reading of the number plate.
